Area IV Agency - Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Action Programs, Inc is a private, not-for-profit organization working to make the best use of federal, state, and local resources in the form of programs or services. One of their services is the Energy Assistance Program which provides financial assistance to low-income households to maintain utility services during the winter heating season and sometimes (if funds are available) during the summer cooling season. An Energy Assistance Program recipient is protected from having their regulated utility disconnected between December 1 and March 15.
Family Promise of Lafayette is non-profit 501(c)(3) and non-denominational
organization for families in transition in finding a home. Part of a national network, FPGL is one of over 136 Networks across the United States. Based on the support of volunteers and host congregations, Family Promise® programs are funded by donations, grants, and fundraising opportunities. Family Promise® builds programs from existing resources so they can be implemented quickly, and without major start-up costs.
Homestead Counseling Services - HomesteadCS is a non-profit HUD-certified Housing Counseling Agency offering Education and Consulting Assistance to all homeowners and potential homeowners regardless of income.
Lafayette Housing Authority – administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH), both funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The office:
- Administers the federal programs
- Processes applications, determines eligibility
- Provides affordable, safe, sanitary housing opportunities in the private sector
- Educates participants and landlords on the program
Applications are received the first Wednesday of each month from 8 – 10 am.

Lafayette Urban Ministry (LUM) – Their Good Samaritan program provides financial assistance for rent, utilities and prescription medications. They can also assist with obtaining I.D.s and birth certificates. LUM also offers free tax preparation for low-income households and individuals living in Tippecanoe county.
Salvation Army - Provides emergency financial assistance such as rent/mortgage assistance, utilities (water/heat), food, clothing, transportation, and other basic and unique needs to families or individuals in crisis.
YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter - Clients staying at the shelter receive continuous case management with the goal of helping to find employment, housing, financial resources, childcare, counseling, etc. in order to become self-sufficient.
